Our Story
Growing up in the inner-cities of Lagos, Nigeria, our founder, Ibukunoluwa (IBK) Adebayo, faced the realities of power outages, water shortages, & air pollution resulting from zero to epileptic access to necessary utilities, including electricity, water, cooking gas, etc. forcing Individuals and communities with the means to take ownership of their supply. This contributed to the proliferation of carbon fuels, generators, boreholes etc. but did not end outages as various factors including fuel scarcity and inflation has meant that a hospital will have to conduct critical surgery using wax candles or kerosene/rechargeable lamps – True story!
On arriving in Leeds in 2013 utilities were a lot more accessible, reliable and available which was a stark opposite from his 19 years experience in Nigeria. This sparked an insatiable curiosity on how Africa can leverage its natural resources (beyond crude), modern technology and the power of communities to generate reliable utilities for its large populace. That curiosity led to the creation of Greensol. The name ‘Green Sol (Sun)’ reflects the company’s vision to Accelerate consumer access to Clean, Reliable, and accessible energy & utilities in Africa and other weak/off-grid communities worldwide.
